The Mid Coast–Parkview Health Caring Touch Program offers patients the gift of touch through hand massage. Provided by Caring Touch volunteers, hand massages help patients reduce stress, while increasing comfort, relaxation, and wellbeing.
Staffed entirely by volunteers, the program provides services at Mid Coast Hospital, Mid Coast Senior Health, and CHANS Home Health & Hospice. Most volunteers who participate in the program have a background in healthcare (nursing, therapy, social work, alternative therapies, etc.), but some formally trained aestheticians have also taken part.
Each hand massage lasts about 20 to 30 minutes and typically a volunteer commits an average of two hours a week. The Caring Touch Program is just one of the many volunteer openings available throughout Mid Coast–Parkview Health.
